Preview: Ballsmania Cup week five, heats three and four
The Ballsmania Cup continues at Nottingham Friday. It’s the fifth of six weeks in which charities have a chance to raise money. Each week six charities are assigned a trap number and earn points based
on how the hound from that trap performs. The charity with the most points at the end of six legs is invited back to the Ballsmania Cup final on 19 November.
Ballsmania Cup - Leg 3 (A2)
Rivermist Sophie will be racing from trap one. She’s finished in the top three in 11 of her past 12 races, although only two of those races were A2 races, including the one in which she finish outside
the top three.
In trap two is Salacres Freedom. She’s finished last in three of her past four races, but won that fourth race. She could start winning again, but until she does punters would be wise to avoid betting
on her.
Rock It Fornorma has only won one race in his past 16, and that race was an A3 race. A bottom three finish is most likely for Fornorma in this one. He’ll go from trap three.
In trap four is Conkon, a very young racer with two career races. He won both those races, but the field is going to be much stronger in this A2 race.
Salacres Ramsfan has been racing in A2 or A1 races since July 2009. He’ll come into this race as one of the most experienced racers, and has a good chance of winning despite having not won a race since
13 August. He’ll go from trap five.
Running from trap six will be Basic Kieran. He’s a veteran A1 racer, but has only one win in his past eight races. Still, bumping him down from A1 to A2 should make him the race favourite.
Best Bet: If the odds are long go with Basic Kieran
Ballsmania Cup - Leg 4 (A1)
Driving Up Local will race from trap one in the fourth leg of the Ballsmania Cup. He’s got a couple sixth place finishes of late, all in A1 races, but is usually in the top three.
Hondo Lad is another veteran A1 racer, who usually finishes in the top three. He’s a consistent runner, and those types are usually good bets. He’ll go from trap two.
In the third trap is Oxford Don. He’s less consistent than Hondo Lad, but be beat Hondo Lad on 7 August. In his last race, Don gave up the lead in the final quarter after leading the entire race.
In trap four is the young Blue Fox Warrior. Before a fifth place finish in his last race, Warrior had never finished out of the top three. This will be his first A1 race.
Dantay Flyer will be flying out of trap five. He’s only finished out of the top three once in 14 races, and has eight wins in that stretch. He raced in his first A1 race on 24 September and finished second.
The sixth trap will house Gaffers Lad, a consistent A1 winner. He had two A1 wins in August and has finished second in his past two races.
