Preview: Ballsmania Cup week six , heats five and six
It’s the last week for charities to earn a spot in the Ballsmania Cup final on 19 November. For six weeks Nottingham has hosted the Ballsmania Cup, and each week six charities are invited to sell tickets
to the night. They’re also assigned one of the six trap numbers, and earn points based on how well the hounds from their assigned trap perform. The charity with the most points each week is invited back for the final.
Ballsmania Cup - Leg 5 (A8)
Skyline Apache has raced in a total of three races so far, all second place finishes. He’ll be looking to earn his first win from trap one in this race, and stands a very good chance of doing just that.
In trap two is Egans Fancy, but punters shouldn’t fancy a hound that has finished in fifth place in seven of his last eight races.
Dunham Magic is another rookie racer, but she’s not looked nearly as good as Apache. Magic is also looking to earn her first win, but expect the wait to continue beyond Friday. She’ll go from trap three.
Right beside Magic in trap four is her kennelmate, Dunham Diana. She won last week, and could have a taste for it. If anyone is going to spoil Apache’s chance to earn his first victory, it will probably
be Diana.
In trap five is Blue Flame. She usually finishes in the top three, but she finished last in her last race. She’s also recently moved from A7 to A8. She’s not that old, but she looks to be either slumping,
or longing for an early retirement.
Moyar View is a typical sixth or fifth place racer, but does manage to come up with the occasional win or second place finish. She took second in her last race, so she’s not due for another one for a while.
Best bet: Call it sentimentality, but Skyline Apache winning his first ever race seems like the best bet in this race.
Ballsmania Cup - Leg 6 (A2)
Battstreet Lena will race from trap one in the final Ballsmania Cup leg before next month’s final. Will she win it? No, Lena usually has terrible starts, and that’s not likely to change by Friday.
Clover Cappo is in trap two. She’s finished in the top three in her past eight races. She probably won’t see top three odds in this one, or finish in the top three.
In trap three is University Man. Punters looking to afford a higher education could do worse than betting on Man, he’s got three wins in his past eight races.
Pineapple Liam in trap four will be the favourite to win this leg. He put a string of three wins together before a string of three forgettable races. Take the ‘what have you done for me lately’ mentality
and avoid Pineapple.
In trap five is Kaukola Ridge, a young racer who doesn’t do well when the odds are long on her, and they’re long in this race.
The sixth trap will house Rock It Luanchlo. After a first and second place finish, her last two races have produced sixth and fourth place finishes.
Best bet:
Use your smarts and bet on University Man.
