Preview: Betfair Yorkshire St Leger heats three and four
Saturday will see the opening round of the Betfair Yorkshire St Leger at Doncaster. Four 661m heats will determine the field for the semi-finals, which will be raced on 12 November. The £8000 final will be run on 16 November.
Betfair Yorkshire St Leger - Heat 3
Droopys Eugene will race from trap one. He has not looked very good of late, having not won a race since 15 June. Since then he has only once finished better than third.
In trap two is Lucerne Rhys. He had back-to-back wins in July and August, but has done little since then. One of his July wins was in an A1 race, but that’s shouldn’t be enough to warrant a wager.
Droopys Bradley will race from trap three. He’s won eight of his past 10 races and two in a row. He should make it to the Yorkshire St Leger final.
In trap four is Penskey John. She’s finished second and first in her last two races respectively, but hadn’t won since 14 August before that.
Droopys Simon hasn’t won in his past eight races, but had won four out of seven before that. He’ll be looking to get back on track in this race, but he doesn’t normally race in these longer races, and he may tire. He’ll race from trap five.
In trap six is Droopys Belletti. He’s won four of his past five races, and will be looking to win this race as well. His usual races are 500m, but he won his last 660m race.
Betfair Yorkshire St Leger - Heat 4
In trap one of the final heat of the Yorkshire St Leger is Frisby Fontenblu. He’s won three of his past six, but finished no better than fourth in the other three races, all of them open. He also doesn’t usually race over 500m.
Hovex Brandy will go from trap two. He won his last race, and took three marathons in a row in May and June. He’s also finished second or better in his past 10 races.
Glenagower Champ has won two of his past three with a fourth place finish splitting the two wins. Recently he’s been racing in 630m races, and he tends to finish strong in them. He’ll race from trap three.
In trap four is Centurion Enry. He’s only finished in the bottom three once in his past 15 races with seven wins in that stretch.
Bower Hawk has four straight second place finishes, and won three out of four before that. He is a very strong finisher moving from sixth to second in the latter half of his last race, and he moved from sixth to second in the home stretch in the race before
that. He’ll race from trap five.
In the sixth trap is Shades Of Jonah. He hasn’t won since 29 July, but also hasn’t finished outside the top three since 15 July. On 21 September, Bower Hawk took the lead on the final stretch pushing Jonah into second place.
