Preview: Northern Oaks and Scurry Cup Finals at Belle Vue
Belle Vue will host two finals on Thursday 25 November: the £1500 Colin Harney Northern Oaks Final over 470m at 21:25, and the £3000 Showsec Security Scurry Cup Final over 260m at 21:40.
£1500 Colin Harney Northern Oaks Final
Racing from trap one in the Northern Oaks Final will be Little Urge. She won the second heat last week by a half length over Villiers Treacy, who was a 10-1 longshot. Both Urge and Treacy managed to stay
ahead of the 5-4 race favourite, Sniper Petra, to earn their spots in the final.
Treacy will race from trap two and will probably not have the success she had last week. She may be a little less comfortable racing from the second trap instead of her usual third or fourth trap.
In trap three is Elwick Blitz, who won the first heat last week as the 10-11 race favourite. Blitz took first place by 1¾ lengths over Villiers End. It marked Blitz’s fifth win in her past eight races,
however, she has yet to race from the third trap in her career, and all her wins are from traps one and two.
Brickfield Snow took the third heat last week by three lengths over Fargo Katie as the 6-4 race favourite. She’s won eight of her past nine races, and will race from trap four.
Fargo Katie will race from the fifth trap. She was a 5-1 longshot last week and did well to qualify for this race, but she’ll have a very difficult time winning on Thursday.
The sixth trap will house Villiers End, who was 5-2 in her heat last week. The only hound with shorter odds was Elwick Blitz. Villiers could be a dark horse in this race. She had won three straight before
losing to Blitz last week.
£3000 Showsec Security Scurry Cup Final
In trap one is Ballymac Ace. He took second in the Scurry Cup’s first semi-final last week with 5-2 odds. He lost to the even odds favourite, Jimmy Lollie, by 1¼ lengths.
In trap two is Gone To Carrhue, another second place finisher, this time from the second semi-final. Carrhue was 2-1 last week and lost to Rotar Wing, who was the 8-13 race favourite. Before last week,
Carrhue had won six straight races.
Rotar Wing will race from the third trap in this race. He hasn’t finished outside of the top three since 11 September, 12 races ago.
Jimmy Lollie will race from trap four. Including last week’s win, he’s won six in a row, and 26 of his past 31 races. He is a very strong candidate to win the Scurry Cup.
Slick City finished third in the first semi-final last week with 4-1 odds. Two of the three hounds he beat came into the race as 25-1 longshots. Don’t expect much from Slick in this race. He’ll go from
trap five.
Love Knight will race from trap six. He was third last week in the second semi-final as a 7-1 longshot. He’s another hound that punters are best advised to avoid.
