Preview: S & D Bookmaker Sprint Trophy heats
The S & D Bookmaker Sprint Trophy over 235m begins Wednesday at Peterborough with two heats. The top three from each heat will advance to Saturday’s £1000 final.
Heat one
Electric Ciao will race from trap one. Ciao has been the favourite in four of her past five races, but has two last place finishes in those races and only one top three finish, a second place finish on
10 September.
Superstar Max took first place in an A1 race on 25 September, but hadn’t finished above third in the four races previous to that. Earlier this summer, Max was consistently winning races. Which greyhound
will show up on Wednesday is still to be determined. Max will race from trap two.
In the third trap is Winetavern Rocky, who was winning consistently in Peterborough before racing in Yarmouth in the Magners Sprint. He earned a spot in the Magners Sprint final and took third in it, but
he has not looked good since returning to Peterborough with fifth and a sixth place showings in 420m races. Coming back to the shorter sprint races may be what puts Rocky back in the winner’s circle.
Toems Rocket has been on tour, racing in Oxford, Swindon, Nottingham, Harlow, Hove, and Peterborough over the past four months. The travelling doesn’t seem to bother him as he has two wins and six top
three finishes in his last eight races. He’ll go from trap four.
In trap five is Corby Don, who has four straight third place finishes, all over distances of less than 300m. Before those four straight third place finishes, Don had won five in a row. Anything less than
a third place finish Wednesday will be a disappointment.
The sixth trap will see Cailin Go Mor try to improve upon her recent performances. After leading for most of her past two races, Cailin has finished in third and fifth. Both those races were over 605 metres,
so the shorter distance should help Cailin finish in the top three.
Heat two
Rotar Wing will race from trap one. He’s won his past two races, both by 3¾ lengths, and should be a favourite in this race.
In trap two is Foxfield Raider, who has been racing in A2 and A3 races over 420 metres for the past year with some success. Typically, Raider does better in the first half of his 420m races, so he should
have a good chance of winning this sprint.
Torpeys Missy will race from trap three. She’s won her past three races, all A15 races, but finished in fifth in two A1 races before that. Don’t count her out because of a couple poor showings in A1 races
though, Missy was winning A1 races earlier this summer, and won a sprint on 7 August.
In trap four is Sahara Mate. He won a sprint last week in Harlow, but hadn’t won in five before that. He is an experienced short distance runner, who up until recently had a history of winning often. His
experience could be enough to put him in the top three.
Live A Dream will race from trap five, he’s only won once in his past 10 races, and has rarely finished in the top three during that stretch. Don’t bet your dreams on this greyhound.
Zigzag Ian has a win and a sixth place finish in his last two races, both over 305 metres. He has recently returned to racing after taking August and most of September off. Don’t expect much from Ian,
he’s only finished in the top three once in his past 10 races.
