Preview of Men’s US Open 2010
The news that the number one tennis ace, Rafael Nadal will remain at the top spot no matter what happens at the Flushing Meadows this year in New York is cent percent true.
The Spaniard enjoys the number one rankings by the ATP with a lead of about 3500 in contrast to the second-ranked Roger Federer in terms of ranking points. With the conclusion of the United States Open tennis tournament 2010, major changes are going to occur in rankings; however the man leading the top spot will still remain there irrespective of the competition’s results.
Even if the Spaniard dropped out of the United States Open tennis tournament and failed to preserve seven hundred and twenty points he secured at the US Open back in 2009 with chances of the number two Swiss Roger Federer winning the trophy; Rafa would still enjoy the top spot in the world after the United States Open tennis tournament of the season. However, in this case, the distance between the number one and two would lessen to a great extent. Considering all the statistics, Rafa would still be the number one tennis ace from the men’s side under all kinds of circumstances.
As far as the last year’s quarterfinalists are concerned, Roger Federer, Robin Soderling, Novak Djokovic, Fernando Verdasco, Fernando Gonzalez, Rafael Nadal, Juan Martin Del Potro as well as Marin Cilic made their way into the round 16 at Flushing Meadows.
Juan Martin Del Potro has already gone down in terms of rankings and he is currently ranked number ten in the world. Since he is not participating in this year’s final major of the season, his rankings will further drop down after the tournament.
Cilic, Verdasco as well as Gonzalez are also one of the few players who are not playing their full form since the 2009 US Open tournament. Therefore, they will not be any major threat to the rest of the contenders this season in New York. Gonzalez’s ranking has already reduced to as low as number twenty-nine in the world with his injury to make matters even worse. An early departure in New York this year may kick him out of the top forty lists in the world by the Association of Tennis Professionals.
Now let us have a look at the betting odds for the top eight players from the men’s side.
Roger is at +275 (11/4) with Coral, Nadal at +333 (10/3)with  SportingBet, Andy Murray at +375 (15/4) with Bwin, Novak Djokovic at +1400 (14/1) with Boylesports, Robin Soderling at +2000 (20/1) with Sporting Bet, Andy Roddick is at +2000 (20/1) with Sporting Bet, Tomas Berdych at +2500 (25/1) with Sporting Bet and David Nalbandian is at +2500 (25/1) with Paddy Power.
Nadal is undoubtedly the most-puffed up player in this list and he is definitely not the second best hard surface contender from the men’s side. If the Spaniard was, he would have a hard surface trophy active in his present ranking points. However this is not the case as the number one Nadal has yet to grab his first US Open title in order to complete his Grand Slam deed.
Both Robin Soderling as well as Andy Roddick have not been performing up to the mark over the last few months, therefore their early departure from the US Open tennis tournament 2010 is definitely not out of the question.  Robin couldn’t play well in both the hard court Masters Championships whereas Roddick despite reaching the semi-final round at the ATP Cincinnati Masters tennis tournament 2010 wasn’t able to play his original game.
In case Andy Murray managed to win the title this year at the Flushing Meadows, he will become the new second-ranked tennis player from the men’s side in the post US Open rankings.
