It is on, in 2010 Asian Games Women’s Volleyball Tournament as the event has entered the final stage. The city of Guangzhou in China recorded amazing performances on its soil during the eight-day competition. The hosts China demonstrated a flawless performance
and made a series of victories in front of local supporters. They remained unbeaten and paved their way to the final match of the tournament. On the other hand, China was joined by the South Korean squad, which also grabbed much attention for a prolific play
at the Asian Games Women’s Volleyball Tournament. They lost only one match and captured a spot in the final match.
The battle for supremacy will be fought in the Guangwai Gymnasium on Saturday, 27th November, 2010. The encounter of World No. 5 China and World No. 19 Korea is most awaited this weekend.
Officially, the 16th Asian Games Women’s Volleyball Championship kicked off on the 18th of November with 11 teams. The teams were categorised as Group A and Group B. Thailand, Korea Rep., Mongolia, China and Tajikistan were labelled
as Group ‘A’ teams, while Japan, Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan, Maldives, India and Korea DPR took their seats in Group B. Thailand entered the tournament with the tag of defending champion. They had defeated China at the 2009 Asian Games to clinch their first
ever Asian Games Title.
There have been great competitions, which provided tons of entertainment to the spectators. By hook or by crook, the defending champions Thailand failed to save their reputation this year and couldn’t qualify for the final match. Thailand is now scheduled
to play against Japan for the fifth place.
China’s Chances
China has a great team line-up. The players have enough international exposure and experience of playing under pressure. They have performed really well in the past. And on top of this, the team is enjoying great rhythm and tone. The Chinese team is equipped
with great tactics and techniques. China has an intelligent player in the form of setter Wei Qiuyue, who has a lot of discipline and skill. She floats the ball in the air with firm hands and her reception is flawless. She has enabled her team to win tough
fights in the tournament. Wei Qiuyue played a vital role in China’s victory in the semi-final against DPR Korea.
In addition to this, China has a superb spiker in Zhou Suhong, who is gifted with a great physique. She has the ability to hit the ball at lightning speed. Thailand will have to work out a great defence strategy in order to penetrate Sunhong’s spikes. Another
player in China’s team, who casts a major threat for Thailand, is Xue Ming. The girl has incredible power to smash mighty shots. She has proven her endeavour in the previous matches of the tournament. China has bright prospects to secure the title. The home-crowd
is desperately waiting for the final-day to come.
Good luck China!
Korea is up for the challenge
Quite similarly, the Korean squad is getting their guns ready for the final encounter. Korea staged a fantastic match against Kazakhstan in the semi-final and captured a straight-set victory. The taller Kim Yeon Koung and Yang Hyo Jin will be the main-force
of Korea in the final match. Both the players will surely create sparks in the game. Besides this, the rest of the Korean team is thrilled about playing at this level.
The head coach of the Korean team, Park Sam Ryong is confident about playing against the local team. He said “As I have said before, we have the confidence to win against China. We need to play them more cautiously this time. We know China very well as we
are old rivals, so we feel no pressure.”
