Previewing Scavolini Pesaro vs. Crvena Zvezda match – 2012 CEV Champions League
The women’s volleyball teams from Italy and Serbia, the Scavolini Pesaro vs. Crvena Zvezda Beograd, are scheduled to meet in the fifth leg of the 2012 CEV Women’s Champions League Prelims.
The match will be played on Thursday, January 12, while Palacampanara sports hall in Pesaro, Italy will set up the field of play.
Pesaro is the top team in Pool E, whereas the Serbian team is staying without any win in the previous matches. Hence, there is a strong probability that it would be another easy match for the Italian ladies.
However, the mentor of Italian side Luciano Pedullà expressed great concern about the positive result of this match. He has urged the team to play its normal game and do not consider the Serbians as weak opponent.
He added, “Our opponent is improving: they have very good players like for instance Ana Bjelica and Bojana Radulovic, being also solid in serving and blocking. They are the current leaders in their national league and we shall take this game with the right approach and attitude. We did so as we played in Serbia and we eventually won in three sets.”
He emphasised that Italy needs a good result before going to Moscow next week for the last round of the prelims. Victory against Serbia will help Pesaro to reserve a berth in the next round of the tournament.
Scavolini Pesaro
The Italian team is current leader in Pool E with nine points, which they bagged in last four matches. So far, Italy has suffered the loss of only one match during the prelims. They took a great start in the tournament and scored back-to-back victories in the first two matches, when they defeated Dinamo Moscow of Russia and Serbia’s Crvena Zvezda Beograd.
They finished both matches in straight sets and earned six points. Third match was a bitter experience for Pesaro as they were badly defeated by Polish Bank BPS Fakro Muszyna in four-set match. Nonetheless, Pesaro recovered from the shock of defeat in the next match by beating same Polish team in straight sets.
It was a perfect revenge by the Italian ladies. That was how the team finished the fourth leg with a total of nine points and firmly held the top slot in pool standings.
Crvena Zvezda Beograd
The Serbian team has a total different story. Although they are pretty strong in the Serbian National League but they failed to prove their endeavours in the European campaign. Serb ladies appeared in four matches and remained in the cold waters. They captured only one set in four matches. Next up the team has a tough competition with pool leader Scavolini. Serbia will be required to display a flawless performance, in order to overcome the resilient rival.
