Previewing the Copa America candidates – Analysing group B: Special Feature (Part 3)
After explaining Brazil’s strengths and weaknesses in the first part of this featured series and then tackling Paraguay in the second part, it is now time to take a look at Venezuela and their chances of making it big at Copa America
in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Argentina-c2841 starting from 1st of July 2011...
Venezuela
It is safe to say that if everything goes normally in group b, Venezuela will be the whipping boys of their group considering the strength of others teams such as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ecuador-c2889. Venezuela haven’t got a
long elaborate history like some of their opponents in Copa America, therefore the 2011 version of the competition is a good chance for the South American minnows to make their mark on continental football.
Venezuela will most probably use Copa America as a launching pad for some of their youngsters as the FIFA 2014 World Cup qualification is set to take place in South America shortly after the end of Copa America. It will be interesting
to see how the Venezuelan team adjusts to pressure of playing at the international stage and how well they can cope with the likes of Brazil and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/America-c38390 where they failed to progress past the group stages after losing
out to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-c11058 Forlan.
Goalkeeping
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Venezuela-c3039. However
given his team’s defensive style of play, Vega is adept is assisting his team on the counter attack by distributing the ball effectively. Moreover the goalkeeping department for Venezuela is a secure one with Vega’s replacement http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leonardo-Morales-c22083 ready to step
in for the veteran goalkeeper given the opportunity.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/José-Luis-Granados-c19359 will make up the Venezuelan defence. Vizcarrondo plays as Venezuela’s right back but he is adventurous in his approach like Luis Granados who looks
to go down the by line at every given opportunity. Both the full backs lack experience at the highest level but they make up for it with their good positional sense and tackling ability. In central defence, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alexander-Gonzalez-c4833 and Rosales have been susceptible
to aerial balls in the past but given the nature of South America football, they will hardly be tested aerially. Both the men are still adjusting to playing for their national team therefore they can be picked upon by Venezuela’s opponents.
Midfield
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Juan-Arango-c19652 will lead the Venezuelan midfield as their trequartista. The Venezuelan playmaker is seen as one of the brightest talents in world football but his temperament let’s him down in general. Arango is the South American
minnows’ only hope of firing them through to the next stage of the tournament with some composure in the midfield department.
Strikers
Nicolás Fedor and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Giancarlo-c14806 Maldonado are Venezuela’s two main offensive options but Malaga’s striker Rondon is another player who can catch Copa America by surprise this year. The young striker scored 14 times in La Liga for the
Spanish minnows and now he will look to make a mark on the international stage by helping his team progress beyond the group stage.
