Previewing the Copa America candidates – Analysing group C: Special Feature (Part 2)
After previewing Uruguay from Group C in the first part of our featured series on Copa America, it is now time to take a look at Chile and their chances of success in group A after doing quite well at the FIFA 2010 World Cup last
year...

Probably South America’s fourth biggest team although http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Uruguay-c3035 or Brazil
or for that matter even Argentina but in recent years their success has been dependant on some of their youthful talent that is gaining experience whilst playing in some of Europe’s top leagues. In the FIFA 2010 World Cup, Chile progressed till the round of
sixteen stage where they were sent packing by the mighty http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858.
Nonetheless, the Chilean national team has not won the Copa America competition in their history but they have finished fourth a record number of 10 times which means that they more or less do get to the semi-finals of each tournament.
Chile’s name in continental football has been overshadowed by other big names such as Uruguay and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Argentina-c2841 but this time around things could be different.
South http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/America-c38390’s minnows are looking forward to the Copa America as they finished third in the 1991 version of the competition. This year might be the year that Chile break their duck in Copa America but it will take a lot from
a young team to do so as they are members of Group C, the group of death.
Goalkeeping
The goalkeeping department is a particularly strong one for Chile. Their http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Captain-c8314 and first choice goalie Claudio Bravo will play in between the sticks in Copa America. Bravo who is 28 years old is famous for his lightening reflexes
and unlike his peers in South America; Claudio Bravo is regarded as a stable customer at the back as he rarely makes mistakes.

Gonzalo Jara, Waldo Ponce, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Waldo-Ponce-c36545 played in the FIFA 2010 World Cup and they will start for Chile in Copa America as well. Both play in central
defence whilst Contreras and Estrada play on the wings. It will be interesting to see whether Chile play with four defenders at the back or their three central defenders.
Midfield
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Medel-c14446
will start for the South American underdogs. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arturo-Vidal-c6760 had a brilliant season with Bayer Leverkusen in Bundesliga whilst Gary Medel is seen as a ball winner who acts in tandem with Vidal to pressurize opponents into giving the ball away.
Strikers
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604. The Chilean forward played
just behind the front striker for his club side and that is what he will do for Chile as well. However his pace and trickery also allow him to operate on the wings.
