  1. The franchise started at 1960.

  2. The team did not come into being until 1961.

Their original name was The Los Angeles Angels.

In 1960 and any year before, the franchise didn't exist.

  3. I believe the team was made as an expansion franchise in 1960 so there was no previous Angels team

  4. Los Angeles Angels....and If you Dodgers fans get mad at the Angels for being the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim then you people are stupid. We were originally the L.A. Angels before the Dodgers moved out here from Brooklyn.

  5. from 1903 till 1957 the team played in the pacific coast league under the name the los angeles angels. in 1957 walter o'malley purchased the team for $3,000,000 to test the l.a. market before he made the announcement the dodgers were moving from brooklyn. In 1960, the American League announced plans to place an expansion team in Los Angeles, to begin play in 1961. Gene Autry, former actor and owner of a number of radio and TV stations on the west coast, attended the Major League Owners’ meeting in St. Louis in 1960 in hopes of winning broadcasting rights for the new team’s games. After two different bids to acquire the new A.L. team failed, it was suggested to Autry that he acquire the team itself. Autry agreed, and purchased the franchise. He named the new team the [Los Angeles Angels], after the long-successful PCL team, paying Walter O'Malley $300,000 for the rights to the name, which O'Malley still owned.

  6. They became a team in 1961 as the Los Angeles Angels.
