Two potentially sad bits of news for the gaming community as rumours are spreading that Bethesda is scrapping Prey 2 and Sony is shutting Zipper Interactive down.
Every so often in the world of video games there is a bit of heartbreak coupled with a touch of disappointment and feeling of what could have been. This week it seems that there are not one but two such stories that could potentially evoke all those feelings
in a gamer.
Emphasis on the word ‘could’, as both bits of news are rumours and have neither been confirmed nor denied from the one source that counts, the publisher.
Starting things off with the news that Human Head’s latest game, Prey 2, has been canned. Human Head is one of many first-party studios that Bethesda has under its belt and although the game’s trailer was nothing short of jaw-dropping, it seems that the
full game may never come near our consoles or PCs.
The trailer for the game was shown at E3 last year and apart from the sick soundtrack and adrenaline pumping chase and action sequences in the trailer, there was just something about the short CGI snipped that had everyone excited for the game.
Sadly, according to various sources that prove to be reliable on more than just the odd occasion, the E3 trailer is all that gamers will have to enjoy of the reportedly scrapped Prey 2.
Another industry changer is the news that Sony plan to shut down one their first-party studios. In fact, they plan to close the first-party studio that has been responsible for one of its trademark exclusives, SOCOM.
Zipper Interactive has been busy over the past few years as it not only released a number of SOCOM games, but was also hired by Capcom to develop Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City and at the same time developed Unit 13 for the PlayStation Vita.
It also worked on the 256-multiplayer title M.A.G, yet if the latest rumours are to be believed than Unit 13 and Resident Evil are the last games to be coming out of the studio.
More on both stories as and when they happen...
