Human Head, the developers of Prey 2 have been given a ray of hope after the publisher confirmed that the game had been delayed due to quality issues and nothing else.
Last year at E3, Bethesda ran a trailer for Prey 2 with a Johnny Cash soundtrack and some rather sweet CGI. The trailer was one of the best to be premiered at the event and an overwhelming majority of the gaming community were interested in the game.
However, since that day all that gamers have heard of the game has been the fact that it was cancelled by the publisher, Bethesda. In fact, the lead graphics programmer at Human Head, Brian Karis was reportedly “devastated” when he was informed that Bethesda
were not going to hold a number of Prey 2 talks at the Game Developers Conference.
Bethesda has now given the developer and fans of the series hope by announcing that development of Prey 2 was still underway and the delay was only due to the fact that the game had not met the publisher’s required quality standards.
The publisher released a statement: "Development of Prey 2 has not been cancelled but the game will not be released in 2012 as planned. The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does
not currently meet our quality standards.”
On a more touching, relatable note, it turns out that rather than stuff a broken, glitchy piece of code down everyone’s throats, Bethesda was giving Human Head all the time they needed to make Prey 2 a high quality triple-A experience.
"Prey 2 has shown great promise and we regret disappointing our fans. We have made a substantial investment in game development to deliver the experience fans want.”
The statement continued by pointing out the vision the studio had for the game and how quality had a higher priority over a release date. “We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality
standards to meet a release schedule."
So gamers who were looking forward to getting their hands on Prey 2 this year will have to wait until 2013 before that becomes an alien bounty-hunting reality.
