My Dad gave me a couple of branches with Preying Mantis Cocoons to place near my home and garden. It has been over a month and they have not hatched. How long is the incubation period before they will hatch?

  1. Apparently, it is variable.

At a temperature of 67 - 78 degrees, they should hatch in 3 to 6 weeks. (So sounds like you may be near the event!)

This link says 10-15 days in warm weather.

The eggs hatch 3 weeks to 6 months after being laid.

I used to buy the cocoons to place in our yard, and I do remember them taking a while to hatch.

  2. Depending on where you live...

In the NE USA the egg sacs are laid in the fall and hatch in the spring, around April where I live.

    Where are you?
