Price difference between silk and real flowers for wedding?

i contacted a silk florist from michigan (i'm in ohio) to price an entire wedding set for

5 bridesmaid bouquets,

1 cascading bride bouquet,

9 boutinieres

and 5 corsages in the specific flowers that i want (sunflowers, lilacs and sage roses) and it came to $422 shipped. If I would opt for "real" flowers, would the florist charge a lot more?

  1. If you are handy, why don't you make your own?  I used silk flowers and made my own.  For 3 bridesmaids bouquets, 1 cascading bouquet, 6 boutinnieres, 3 corsages, 22 pew bows, and a centerpiece for the head table, all the flowers cost less than $75.  We bought them a bit at at time when they were on sale.  Hobby Lobby is great.

  2. Hi.

Here are my thoughts.  Why don't you go to a local florist in the nearest town/city to you and get a price quote!  Remember that a floral shop is in the business to serve the customer so they can work within any budget you give them.

Give them the list as above, with what flowers you want and see what they come up with.  That is the only real way to know.

To be honest, I think you can get real flowers for not too much more.

My son was married 2 years ago and I paid for all the flowers and we had:

    1 - brides bouquet

    1 - toss bouquet

    4 - bridesmaids bouquets

1 - pomander for the flower girl

    13 - boutonnieres (groom/groomsmen/dads/grandpas and ring bearer)

    2 - mother's corsages

    3 - grandmother's corsages

5 - miscellaneous corsages for readers and vocalists

As you can see, we had a lots more than you and we had ALL roses and the total came to $540.  With tax, labor, and delivery it was $704.  Now, granted that was 2 years ago, but again, we had many more things to order.

Anyway, I would see what real flowers will cost.  The only thing about real flowers would be the lilacs.  They are only in bloom for a short time.  They are also very, very fragrant, so it might be best to use silk for those if you are wanting lilacs.

  3. I made my own bouquets and boutinieres and spent maybe $50-75 and I get to keep them forever. real flowers do cost more and you have to factor in what flowers are in season when you get married if they are not in season they will cost a lot more.

  4. for all that you are looking at over $1000 easy

  5. It depends on where you are and who you contract. I am getting married in 11 days and I made the children's kissing balls out of silk flowers but when it was all said and done I used a lot more flowers than I anticipated and the whole thing cost me more than my florist (for all the other flowers) would have for 4 small bouquets I would recommend breaking out the phone book and calling every florist in the town you are getting married in (alot of times they will deliver for free) and get an estimate then go with what you like the best! don't drown yourself in debt but if it's only going to be a $50-100 difference go with what you like...after all it's your day! also for simple table arrangements you can buy fresh flowers in bulk from Sam's Club or Cost-Co.com and save a ton of money...this is what I did for centerpieces and my total flower bill from them was only half of what the florist wanted to charge me! I have tons of money saving tips so if you want to know e-mail me waym7572@yahoo.com and I will be happy to help you out!

  6. this might sound morbid, but it's worth a shot.  the price you got sounds high...that's almost what i paid for real flowers...and i got a lot more!  a friend of mine is a mortician.  he helps arrange the flowers for funerals, and he did his own silk flowers for his weddingl.  i had no idea!  they were beautiful!  perhaps you fcould find someone that could help you do them.  it would be much less expensive!

  7. I definitely think real flowers from a florist would be alot more expensive, im ordering wholesale roses from fiftyflowers.com and for 125 roses its a little over $200 and im putting the bouquets and bouttenieres together myself, but we are not doing flower centerpieces

*if you're worried about them looking homemade- just get enough to do one bouquet and see how it turns out
