Question:

Price for cookie wedding favours?

My fiance and I are planning our Christmas theme wedding for next November. I'm not crazy about the idea of giving out favours though. We are on a tight budget (I refuse to go over budget) and I don't want to spend more than $1 per favour (we have more than 100 guests).

We decided on really simple gingerbread men cookies (not decorated, just the shape and maybe a thin icing outline around the edge).

Everywhere I have looked up custom gingerbread men cookies they are really expensive (like $4 each - for a cookie!).

Since they don't really need to be "custom" just a basic gingerbread man, do you think we could have them made for under $1 each?

If I can't get them for that price I *might* consider making them myself the week of the wedding, but that's a lot of work that has to be done right before the wedding, and seems like a lot of stress. If not, I just might forgo favours, because I don't think people would even notice (it's better than some piece of tiny junk they are forced to keep in their cupboard for years to come).

  1.   A great option would be a Christmas ornament.  It wouldn't sit in someone's cupboard for years ....they would put it on their tree this year and then pack it away with their other ornaments and each year after that remember the wonderful time they had at your wedding when Christmas came around.  My niece made ornaments for each of my family members one year.  She took plan glass balls, added a few drops of paint to the inside and swirled it around until it created a cool design and then she put our names on the outside with a paint pen.  You could do something similar using your wedding colors and writing

a special message.  That would be a really nice favor.  I found instructions here:

    Here's 12 glass ornaments for $3.99.

Paint pens for $3.99 a piece. You would probably need at least three.

Metallic paint for $2.17 a bottle. You would probably only need one bottle of each color since you only have to put a few drops in each ball.

Ribbon to tie around the top. Assuming you would need 12" for each ornament you would need four rolls. $4.99 each.

You could hang all of these on a Christmas tree by the door at your reception for people to take one as they departed.

    $40.00 for 120 ornaments

    $12.00 for paint pens

      $6.51 for paint

    $19.96 for ribbon

    $78.47 for 120 custom ornaments

Just get your bridesmaids together, order a pizza, rent a movie and make an evening of it.

  2. I have two ideas for you,

    1. Call your local bakery. They can easily make gingerbread cookies for you for less than $1 a piece. They would probably throw in some decoration and personalization at no extra charge.

    2. If that doesn't work (and it should) orientaltradingcompany.com has plenty of mints/chocolates/etc. that would be less than $1 a piece.

You are definitely right about favors not really being that important, but you should still give your guests a little something to say thanks for coming. $1 isn't that low of a budget for that. :)

  3. You can definitely find them that cheap.  Check around for your local bakeries.  My friend is doing the same thing for her October wedding in NH and she is buying them at the Yum Yum shop in Wolfeboro.  Keep in mind you will get the best price by buying them in bulk but will have to buy cellophane bags and ribbon to pack them up individually. If you do talk to a bakery, don't mention they are wedding favors because they may jack up the price as most vendors do for weddings.  Or you can ask a close friend to make them for you (in exchange for money or something else) because they aren't very  hard to make.

  4. I would give an ornament! You could find them on ebay for cheap right now!

  5. EDITED

Why not check your local bakery? Because you'll be orderinig them in bulk, they may be able to sell them to you for a cheaper price???

Another idea would be to use heart shaped candy canes. I've seen them during that time of year. :)
