‘Price is back’, hurler pitches eight shut-out innings against Chicago White Sox
It is good to be back and that is what most of the Tampa Bay Rays fans will be thinking for the coming days as David Price is looking like his former self.
The hurler pitched a shutout eight innings against the Chicago White Sox. The pitcher walked in with two losses and a win on his sheet for the season.
Fortunately for St. Petersburg and Rays’ manager, Joe Maddon, the left-hander proved his merit in a breathtaking display that pulled the opposition down 5-0. Price had not won a single game against the White Sox in four appearances.
"This morning, everybody was sending me texts", Price said. "I was kind of joking around. 'I'm facing the White Sox, just get ready for a rough one, because they're a very tough team.' I don't particularly like pitching against them.
It's just everybody has those hitters. Everybody has those teams. And they're just a tough team to pitch against. That was big for me to go out there and throw the way I did".
The pitcher conceded four hits in the game, while availing nine thumping strikeouts. He had an earning runs average of 2.83 when he moved out of the fixture.
The ball thrower went in with an aim to win and the squad helped him along the way. The ace, who is his own worst critic, had a few things to point out in his performance that he saw lacking in the game.
He keenly suggested that his two walks in the game supposedly threw some pressure off the White Sox. He said that he did not want to disappoint himself while doing his best to beat the competition. He was nevertheless appreciative of the victory.
"I will take that one", Price said. "I was 0-4 with them - never beat them, never even got a no-decision. That was a big game".
With a game against the Toronto Blue Jays next, the quick thrower looks set to extend his wins for the season. While many see a bad start on the front, the hurler can very easily replicate his performance from last season when he won 19 games from 31 game
starts.
