  1. It really depends on the part of the country you live in. I live in Houston and sell Hyundai's. The 2007 Sonata's we have on our lot run about 12-15K for the 4Cyl models. This is due, in large, to the current gas prices. We buy most of our used cars from the local auction and since they are more fuel efficient, they bring a higher price. The current pricing on a new one is around 20K. The current rebate is 2K, with discounts you could get this as cheap as about 17K plus TT&L.

  2. The 4 cyl could be had in California, new,  for as little as 15K.  If you are talking about buying a used one, start at under 10K.. I put 60,000 on a 2006 and have 18,000 on my 2008. Both 6 cyl.

The 2006 developed a really loud valve rattling before the car warmed up. Factory installed some kind of update to the valve train but did not fix the problem. No cost, they even gave me a loaner car for the day.

It does have some road rumble and the floorboards do vibrate under my feet.  However, I drove my bro's 2006 Mercedes sedan for a few hundred miles --  It also has vibration under my feet and has even more road rumble than the Sonata.  The Sonata drives better.  Many cars have too much road noise - largely because of the harder tires that are put on for better gas mileage. Hondas are notorious for road noise.

I  spend a lot of time on highway and return 25.7 miles per gallon in the six cyl Sonata overall.  Very good feel and handling, nice short turning circle.  The sonata is a large car.  The back seat can fold forward, I have carried three or four 4" by 8" fence posts in it and closed the trunk lid.  One guy in Arizona was clocked at 147 M.P.H. but the four cyl is probably just fine for normal people!

I was going to road test the smaller Hyundai, the middle sized one,  but it was noisy (engine noise) before I even put it in gear. No way!

  3. Through Hyundai the price of a new long block engine (oil pan to valve covers) is $5968.00.

The price of a new short block (bottom of heads to valve covers) is $1762.00

Used you are looking at around $2000.00 for an entire engine.

These prices do not include the labor to install or price of fluids (ie. oil, coolant).
