Question:

Price of dental treatment?

I live in northern ireland and i've just gone private with my dental care. My check up was £21, and i've to get a filling and polish next week. The filling is costing £40 and the polish (which i dont need...was just offered to me and i thought was free) is £26.

I was shocked at the price, i'm just wondering what does everyone else pay for treatments like this? Is this normal? My friend (who only lives 10 miles away) reckons its alot more expensive than what he pays.

  1. try the republic of Ireland...like Dundalk and get there by train it may be cheaper there than in the north

  2. I pay £19 per month with Denplan and my check-ups (x2) and polishes (x4) and all fillings etc are free!

    Here's the link

    http://www.denplan.co.uk/

  3. prices vary depending on how good your dental surgeon was negotiating his contract with the PCT. in my area there can be a difference of up to £12 for an examination at different practices within our area.

For you scale if it is clinically required eg you have gum disease price should be covered by your exam. sounds like yours is cosmetic and your being charged on a private basis.

Price for your fill>>the government decided for new contract that patients should pay same price for 10 fills as they would for 1(in your case £40) great for people who go once every 10 years but alas screws over regular attenders.

    hope this helps.

  4. Im from NI as well and currently studying dentistry. £21 is probs about right for your check-up if its private and £40 for the filling but i think £26 is a bit steep for a polish on its own unless its actually a scale and polish you are getting. If you can find a dental hospital where students train you could probs get ur treatment down on the nhs for free
