  2. You really must do your own search  most common fare £118

but for 27 june the 16.24  you can get one for £62 but the onlyon this  timing       for the bulk of the day  its 118

Think you will find they leave from  Liverpool Street

  3. national rail enquiries is the place to go.

Of course it does depend on when you are travelling, as it is cheaper off peak, in advance, when there is no "a" in the day, whether it si the driver's birthday etc.  I am led to believe that if you book enough in advance, you shoudl be able to get a return for under £30.  I have never managed it myself., but worth a try.

  4. Return fares purchased on the day vary from £88.00 off peak to £223.00 peak (valid on all services) in Standard Class. First Class tickets cost around 50% more than the Standard Class peak fare.

There are a few direct trains daily, operated by National Express East Coast; you can also take a National Express East Coast train as far as York, and change there for a Transpennine Express train to Northallerton. The ticket price and journey time are around the same either way.

There is also one daily peak time train in each direction operated by a company called Grand Central. Tickets for this service cost £95 return.

If you don't mind booking well in advance and being tied to a specific train, Standard Advance fares are available from as little as £11.25 for a London to York single fare and £5 for York to Northallerton (oddly enough, it's often cheaper to buy two separate tickets like this). First Class Advance tickets are also available, again offering a huge saving over the regular First Class fare.

  5. Varies with time, date & your age, check with http://www.thetrainline.com , takes around 2 1/2 hours & will cost about £60
