Question:

Priceline Name Your Own Price?

Has anyone used Priceline's Name Your Own Price option?

I was curious about traveling during the 4th of July weekend, and I put in a bid of $1, and they accepted it. The total cost of my round trip ticket was $37 and some change.

I know I won't know the times of my flight and layovers, but this is very cheap! Especialy since I'm just traveling to visit a friend.

So what's the catch? LOL

  1. Are you sure it was accepted ?

I have only used Priceline for hotels,

and when they accept your bid there,

they reply with the details of the hotel

at the same time.  As in:

    "Congratulations! Your bid was accepted!

You will stay at the _____ hotel,

    ______ address _____ phone. etc."

I would think it would be the same with

flights, but it's possible they tell you later.

That seems unlikely, because they should

be assigning you to flights right away,

in case all the flights sell out.

I am also very surprised that a $1 bid

would be accepted.  SOMEONE has to

make money off this deal and even with

$36 fees added on, that doesn't leave

    much to spread around.

  2. I used Priceline once. I didn't get to name my price. They just gave me a lower price than any of the airlines. The catch for us was we didn't get to sit together on either of the flights. Even though I booked early, we were seated  in the left over seats. & our flight time was changed on us.
