Question:

Priceline hotel bids for Maui?

I am going to Maui for a friends wedding in October. I've already purchased my ticket, but was thinking of bidding for the hotel room using Priceline. I've never done it before. Does anybody have any suggestions and can you really a good deal?

  1. There is no such thing as a free lunch.  Don't bother.

Go to tripadvisor.com to search for an inexpensive Maui Hotel.  Learn from other peoples vacation experiences at this site.  Warning Maui is very expensive.

  2. go to this website.

  3. Actually I have done very well on Priceline both with the quality and location.  For example Nice Hyatt in Alexandria VA with Rack Rate of $249 for 49 plus tax.  Wonderful view of lighting the monuments in DC.  Car in DC for 7.00 a day.

The downside is if you want to be in a very narrow specific area - you might not get it - you will get to select an area but it will cover some territory.  IF you are going to be where the action is at the wedding - you might find yourself out of range.  You can start the process and look how they divide the area and maybe that will work.

I also don't think the deals are as good as they were in the beginning.

IF you do use it spend some time looking at hotels in specific areas and sometimes you'll be able to figure out what hotel you are bidding on.

I would try Hotwire as you can many times find deals there.  Finding a deal can be very time consuming calling a travel agent who can dig around for you might be more cost effective.

  4. The best bargains I've found were condo rentals, not hotels, and the lowest rates seem to be in Kihei.  On my first trip there I stayed at the Kihei Akahi as part of a package deal through Apple Vacations.  Rates start at $110 a night for a studio.  The Kihei Bay Surf is a little cheaper at $90 a night.  Check the third link below for other listings.

  5. what hotels are you looking at? i am a travel agent, i can check some prices for you.
