Question:

Prices in flea markets in Paris?

I don't want antiques, I'm a tourist who wants necklaces and small bags and figurines, but I do NOT want to be ripped off. What are reasonable prices for each? Just knicknacks, not expensive chairs and tables and stuff. Prices, anyone?

Thank you!!!

  1. The variety of merchandise in the flea markets and the huge range of quality available is such that there is no meaningful reply to your question.

How, for example, is it possible to say what a reasonable price for a necklace is when it might be anything from something made of plastic to something made of gold set with diamonds?

The merchants in the flea markets are, generally speaking,  normal, honest business people not thieves and con men.

But in any purchase of anything any where what is a "reasonable price" depends on many things. If you can't determine the value of something in your own mind and based on your own observation then you probalby shouldn't be wandering around buying things.

  2. As Rillifane said, it's impossible to give prices, as it depends on what you are looking for. But there are several flea markets in Paris. The main one, Porte de Saint-Ouen/ Porte de Clignancourt, is worth seeing, but there are many tourists there, and prices are usually high. It's quite a big place, and there are several markets, some more expensive than others:

Personally, I prefer, the flea market at the Porte de Vanves:

    It's cheaper and more authentic.

There is another one Porte de Montreuil, which is quite good too:

These places have a great atmosphere. Be careful with your belongings if you go to Saint-Ouen on a Sunday: it's packed full of people and pickpockets. There are nice places where you can have a meal or a drink.
