  1. well we pay 500 a month for full board.

then theres lessons which is about 300-400 a month (i have 2 lessons a week)

show prices vary but its usually around 200 per show (thats including class fees, trainer fees, and trailering fees)

then theres the farrier which is 175 every time he comes (about once a month)

the vet comes out occasionally.... the cost varies

then theres all the usual stuff like treats, and supplements, and various supplies which i would estimate comes out to about 200 or so a month....

its VERY expensive, but then again our horse is NOT an easy keeper, and i lesson and show A LOT, so that adds on a lot of expenses...

  2. $0 on boarding

    $50 feed

    $75 hay

    $125 miscellaneous

  3. I spend most of the year on the horse show circuit. My clients either keep their horses on their own property, or with me. Full-service board at this level usually costs anywhere from $1000 to $1600 a month in our base in Wellington. Shoeing can be another $150 to $400 every 4 to 6 weeks. Supplements range from $50 to $200 a month on average. Training rates vary, but my prices range from $200 to $800 a month. Then there are show costs, as the majority of my clients participate in at least one a month. Since the horses in my barn are all athletes, many of them are also adjusted by a chiropractor, which can be expensive. There are also annual expenses like vaccinations, worming, teeth floating, and more.

Keep in mind, I live in the horse show capital of the country right now. The people who come down here have money to spend, and so the prices have risen dramatically over the past few years. It's sad, but it's a product of the economy. Keeping a horse in my area is definitely very expensive. There are some barns and outlying areas that offer cheaper board and discounts, but I find the quality is drastically lower when it comes to feed, bedding, and footing.

Compare the prices I listed with some of the posters' above me, and you'll see right away that the amount you spend directly relates to where you live and what you want to do with your horse. If you keep a horse for pleasure and not for competition, your costs will be much lower. But if you have goals to win medal or classic classes, then you'll be paying quite a bit every month.

  4. I pay $250 a month for board (used to be $215 but went up due to rising gasoline and hay prices). If it is a month when my horse sees the farrier, I pay $35 in the fall/spring/winter and $85 in the summer. I also pay for wormer every two months so for one month probably about $10. For grain and supplements I pay about $150-$175 each month. So total that is $450-$475 for fall/winter/spring and $495-$520.

  5. Board was $700

    +$10 Flyspray

+$15 Flymask (because just one of my horses breaks a new one monthly)

+Varying farrier bills, my guys were like the masters of shoe-throwing.

+$40 Per Lesson, 4 Lessons per week.

So in total that's.... a lot.

But ever since owning our own barn, well, lets just say it's gotten more expensive.

  6. I have my own place, so it only costs about $200.00 a month for basics...feed, vet, farrier, wormer.

  7. $250-$300

$200 for boarding the rest for supplies

  8. $250 a month on boarding

    $30 for performance grain

    $25 farrier

    $20 on odds-and-ends

  9. it depends

  10. Well I don't own a horse but our friend spends at lease 1000 bucks a month and she could spend less but doesn't like the way people would treat her horse elsewhere. HOrses are VERY expensive and should only own one if you have the time experience patience and money for them!

  11. about 200 for boarding

    100 for hay

    and about 50 for grain.

    350 ishh

  12. well im not sure the prices at my new barn but my old barn:

(and my horse was not an easy keeper)

    700-board

400-farrier (yes, he came once a month)

    70-local shows

    30-trailering (local shows)

    130-rated shows

    70-trailering for non-local shows

then various trips to the tack shop.

  13. we spend 215 a month just for board. and they feed him grain, hay and pasture.

but  someintemes more money is spent for other nessesities like fly spray or more grain or vet bills( :( )

  14. Usually, I spend around 250-300.

Depnds on what I'm doin, and what i need.

    Have a wonderful life.

  15. depends what your going to do what are you going to do wiyh it
