Question:

Prickly pear cactus, not dog-friendly?

I bought a prickly pear cactus since I think it'd be a cool plant to grow and I live in the desert.

However, I have a silly little dog who I'm quite sure would often wind up with all those little needles in her and she rubs against it and smells it.

Any ideas?

  1. LOL I have 2 American Eskimo doggies and also a prickly pear cactus on my patio.  I planted it in a huge container along with another cactus that is much larger in a grouping.  The container is just high enough that neither eskie can reach either cactus, but can rub up against the container without encountering the prickles.
