Pride Of The Artic completes hat-trick with John F. McGuire Novice Chase title
Quite convincingly and impressively, the Peter Fahey trained bay gelding, Pride Of The Artic, made a big upset by winning the John F. McGuire Novice Chase at Listowel racecourse on Monday, September 17.
Despite being an underdog, the seven-year-old veteran horse outplayed Ballyadam Brook by the reasonable margin of 4 ¾ lengths.
That was not a simple victory, but a value addition which completed the victor’s hat-trick. To most of the punters and sport analysts, it was a superb feat indeed.
The brilliant gelding’s three-race success streak has raised his odds in the betting market. The confidence and momentum he has gained will help him bring home some big titles in the near future.
Pride Of The Artic has five victories off 15 starts to his credit. He started his career in May 2010 and broke his maiden in October of the same year by winning 5yo Geldings Maiden.
His second victory came in the Tote Trifecta Rollover Irish National Hunt Flat Race that took place at Naas in March 2011. The talented son of Definite Article out of Tricias Pride grabbed his third triumph in December 2011 when he beautifully finished first
in the Gowran Park Racing Club 2012 Maiden Hurdle at Gowran Park.
Andrew Leigh proved to be a lucky rider for the Brendan Fahey owned and bred sprinter as he marvellously completed his hat-trick under him.
On June 22, 2012 the gelding sealed the title of El Divino Beginners Chase at Down royal. He defeated Supreme Doc by a big margin to finish first in Latin Quarter Chase that went down at Galway.
And yesterday, Pride Of The Artic impressed all with the upset.
Now, the skilled horse’s morale is at the peak. He is likely to accomplish some more victories during the next couple of weeks.
Ballyadam Brook finished second at Listowel while the third top position went to the hot favourite candidate Sweet My Lord.
As a whole, the race was packed with entertainment and thrill. The spectators enjoyed the heated action a lot. Pride Of The Artic was really hilarious to watch fighting for victory.
