Question:

Prime time MMA stopped too soon ?

Did you think, taking all the fights on Saturday night in to consideration, that due to the fact they were fighting on primetime TV, the majority of the fights were stopped long before they would have been in the UFC? Here is a quote from a recognized MMA analyst " .....But the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board, which oversaw the event, had a lightning-quick trigger finger on fight stoppages, apparently not wanting to let unpalatable scenes play out on network TV."

  1. Elite XC did one thing on national television and one thing only...they promoted themselves for the entire MMA world rather than just Elite XC and their company. It's a good thing for the media but the results were definately bad business for Elite XC and its counterparts. I was truly disappointed with the pre-mature stoppage of their fights and I was more than irate that the Kimbo/Thompson fight was main eventing instead of Smith/Lawler (for the championship might I add). If Elite XC is going to continue to make Kimbo the exclusive face of Elite XC, which seems to be the case...then they're going the wrong direction for both their company and in exposing the true essence of Mixed Martial Arts. I don't think having the program nationally televised was the problem, it's the way they decided to handle it which pissed a lot of true MMA fans off. "G" rated MMA...I don't think that's ever a good idea.

  2. With exception to the Smith/Lawler fight, I think all the fights were stopped at the appropriate time. Fighter safety is PARAMOUNT, FIRST AND FOREMOST. There is no honor in stringing along a fighter for a KO when it is clear that they can no longer continue the fight.

  3. Yeah I think most people knew going into this event they would be very quick to stop fights due to the fact its finally on national tv. And I agree Kimbo/Thompson shouldn't have been the main event but they were trying to do what they could to appeal to the casual fan which is why the card was filled with fighters that would just slug it out.

  4. SMITH WAS SCREWED, BUT HE SHOULD HAVE NEVER SAID HE CANT SEE.  IF U SAY THAT UR ASKING FOR IT TO BE STOPED!!!! There will be a rematch. And the kimbo fight was stoped perfectly.. if he would have taken another punch from kimbo he was done. That was a good stop.  i wanna see the first guy that fought, with the mohawk fight kimbo.  that will be a slugfest

  5. Yea they want to appeal to people.  DO you have any idea how many people complained about thompsons ear after it exploded thats why the fight was stopped because they want main stream people to watch.

I find it od that Elite EX was on CBS and not UFC thats like AA baseball being on CBS instead of the major leagues

  6. Yes. Scott Smith was screwed royally. The same exact thing happened to Jens Pulver on Sunday and he was allowed to keep fghting. Smith and Lawler each had won 1 round at that point and he deserves a rematch. My main question is how can Kimbo "Internet Thug" wannabe fighter be the main event when both Smith and Lawler were top contenders in the UFC? KIMBO SUCKS!!!
