Question:

Primer made just for panelling....?

I was reading an article about painting over wood panelling, and it stated that there was a primer made specifically for panelling. Has anyone heard of this? I'm looking for a name, and possible where it would be sold. I live in Texas. Thanks! :)

  1. There are several primers for paneling. What you need to make sure of is that the primer is stain resistent. That is that the primer will not allow the stains from the paneling to bleed through. If you do not use a stain retardent primer, after a while you will have dark spots show up on your walls.

  2. Hi

Please don't overlook the possibility of redecorating around your paneling.there are so many options available to help you.

  3. Also, you have to use latex.  Oil dries rigid, and won't "give" with the expansion and contraction of the wood.  Use latex.

  4. Definately a good choice to use primer first.  Just read the label on a few and check if it should be used for what you are covering.  I can't tell if your panelling is covered in polyurethane, wax, or just unfinished wood.

  5. Kilz is one that will work. Check with Lowes or Home Depot. Both carry them.
