Prinavin Nelson leads the MTC Namibia PGA Championship, Sunshine Tour
The second day of the Sunshine Tour event of MTC Namibia PGA Championship commenced at the scene par-71, Windhoek Country Club in Namibia. It was the South African Prinavin Nelson who emerged on the top of the leader board after two
rounds to lead the tournament.
Nelson carded a moderate round of three-under par, 68. His score card for the second day shows four birdies followed up by a single bogey. The only two drop shot came on the long par-4, 16th where his tee shot landed in
heavy rough; he had to be content with a bogey.
The 23-year-old youngster has won a couple of tournaments playing on the Sunshine Tour and is confident of adding another one in his career.
Nelson has a total two round aggregate score of nine-under par, 133 and leads the championship by a margin of just a single stroke.
The local lad Ryan Tipping is placed at the second spot. He carded a second round second round of four-under par, 67 and was in exquisite touch with his hot putter. Tipping had an eagle, two birdies followed up by a single bogey for the second round. The
par-4, 2nd really troubled him as his approach shot to the green was completely off the target.
Tipping is hoping to secure his first win this year and is confident of improving his game on the third day also. He last won a tournament two years back and is anticipating posting another victory to his name.
Three players are tied for the third spot having the same scores after completing two rounds. Albert Pistorius, Justin Walters and Christiaan Basson all had a two round score of seven-under par and trail by just two shots over the leader.
Pistorius repeated his performance on the second day carding another under par round. He posted a moderate score of two-under par, 69 for the day. His score card shows four birdies followed by two bogeys. The only two bogeys came on hole numbers 9 and 13.
He failed to produce brilliance on both the par-3’s and had to make bogeys.
Three players are sharing the sixth spot: Louis de Jager, Doug McGuigan and JC Claassen had a two round aggregate score of six-under par, 136.
Doug McGuigan looked in great shape on the second day carding a round of six-under par, 65. His score card showed an eagle, five birdies and a blemish on the last hole. McGuigan’s tee shot was wayward on the finishing par-4, 18th and had to be
content with a bogey.
The third day will commence today with the top players on the leader board looking to curb the challenge and lift the title on the final day.
