Charlie has been accused by a Government minister of ignoring the plight of the world's poorest countries by attacking genetically-modified crops, do you agree? I personally don't agree with him, and think he is ignoring less fortunate people.

  1. From what I have read about GM foods, they are the worst thing to happen to the world's poor.  the seeds can't be saved to germinate the following year and it takes expensive fertilisers etc. to grow them - no more chucking a bit of goat dung as manure on them!  This leaves the poorer people of the world at the mercy of these GM companies.  I think Charles might be right on this one!

  2. Charles lives in a fantasy world of wealth and privilege. He means well but has no idea how the people of his own country live so how can he speak for others?

  3. Unfortunately, to Prince Charles  being poor is having less than 100,000 Acres, not owning two castles and having less than 100 lackeys at your personal call. It's difficult for the Royal Family to relate to common life, I suspect that he means well, but doesn't really understand some of the ramifications of what he says.

{edit to Mr. Rection}. It depends what you mean by Modified, by selective breeding we've been tampering with the genetic lines of food for hundreds of years and some of the food we have today wouldn't even exist if allowed to develop normally. However, I agree that there is a stage in GM foods, like all science, that we shouldn't go beyond as i believe that it's almost impossible to fully predict any look term mutations in a fully fabricated genetic stain.

  4. Charles is so thick I dont think any of it registers Iet them eat cake is what applies in his case.

  5. in the philippines people starve to death due to lack of rice, yet the government refuses to buy modified rice from america, so blame the gov, not charles.

  6. GM Foods are about big businesses making money, since when have multinationals been concerned about the worlds poor?

Scientist's are attempting to play God without knowing the consequences of their interference. The real issues about the poor has more to do with the need to control the worlds population, but big business don't want that, they want an ever expanding pool of consumers to purchase their products, in this case GM Seeds.

  7. What tish tosh. That government minister should keep his gob shut.

  8. Every time HRH opens his mouth, Murdoch's tabloids have fun.  He doesn't like GM crops - but then most of us are suspicious.

His attack wasn't on the crops themselves but on big business that controls them.  To use GM crops you have to enter into an agreement to buy fertiliser and weedkillers from the same firm and you're not allowed to save your own seed.  That will put them out of the reach of the world's poorest farmers and they will just increase the gulf between rich and poor.

Of course, Prince Charles, Rupert Murdoch and I will count among the rich and won't starve as a result.  It's just Prince Charles and I have a degree of compassion for the world's poor and Murdoch doesn't give a stuff as long as people keep throwing money at him.

  9. Thats fine talk coming from a government minister who votes his own pay rise and who doesn't give a hoot about the poor in the UK. Let alone the poor in other countries

    They all talk rubbish

  10. Old Brian really cares about issues, you can't take that away from him, but unfortunately he is very impressionable and talks to some really dodgy 'experts'. He is so anti-technology that he talks, or rather repeats, some absolute arsedribble at times!

  11. I feel I have to agree with scrooge on this one it is the governments of these poor countries that wont accept GM foods, which is hardly the fault of the western world least of all Charles, as for the government minister -  pot calling kettle black comes to mind.

  12. No. Since when did Government ministers have honourable intentions?!

I agree with Charles on this one, GM foods would be a DISASTER.

  13. Of course.  Hes got plenty of money, people like him don't realise or care how poor some folk are.
