Prince Fielder, Albert Pujols key first-base attractions in free-agent market – MLB Update
With the World Series finally over, the off-season market is expected to attract all eyes for the next few months. Some of the best names on the circuit are under free agency and it will be interesting to see how things unfold in the near future.
World Class players such as Albert Pujols, Jose Reyes, Prince Fielder, C.J. Wilson and Jimmy Rollins are expected to change jerseys, but it still remains to be seen what offers do they attract from their current teams. While a few players are likely to stay
loyal to their teams, players like Fielder and Wilson are expected to move in deals which are highly anticipated.
Pujols is expected to stay with the St. Louis Cardinals in a bid to defend his second World Championship. He has emerged as one of the best sluggers in modern day baseball and has become an icon for the fans at St. Louis. His performance in Game 3 of the
Fall Classic will be remembered for years to come and it is likely that the ballclub will endeavour to keep the player on the team, considering his current form and leadership abilities.
Major League Baseball analyst, Larry Bowa, highlighted the fact that the Cardinals have given new deals to Chris Carpenter, former ace Adam Wainwright and Lance Berkman. He added that considering these deals, he is unsure as to whether the management will
have enough liquidity to accommodate the big-hitting Pujols.
However, the management is optimistic that Pujols will agree on a lower amount to stay at the club. Well, with the current scenario in the trade market, I have serious reservations.
On the contrary, Fielder is pretty sure on leaving the Milwaukee Brewers and playing for another team with a more lucrative, long-term contract. Given his conditions, Fielder is likely to sign with a ballclub that is desperate for wins and thus big players.
There have been talks about Texas Rangers signing either Pujols or Fielder to strengthen their line-up, after losing the World Series for the second year running. However, the Rangers are a formidable unit and might not want to spend heavily on sluggers.
