Prince Fielder a prospect for the Texas Rangers? – MLB News
The prospect for free-agent slugger of the Milwaukee Brewers’ Prince Fielder has been outdone by uncertainty so far. The Texas Rangers were reported to have had partial interest in signing the player, but with the investment on the pitcher Yu Darvish, it
does not now seem possible that the deal with the player shall go ahead.
What created some complication for Prince Fielder was his agent keeping a target of over $200 million for the player in the long-term deal. Scott Boras, the player’s agent, did so after Albert Pujols was signed by the Los Angeles Angels in more than $250
million dollar.
However, as Prince Fielder might have hoped that things will work out for him, the unstated interest in playing with the Rangers is something that should not go unnoticed here. The Rangers did show some interest to sign the player, so did the slugger to
play with them.
It was this reason that Prince Fielder did not go ahead with the deal offer of $120 million for six years by his former club the Milwaukee Brewers. But as the Rangers have now signed the Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish, things once again seem uncertain.
The Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners or the Marlins all have enough resources to invest on the player now for any long term deal. But all of them have cautiously shopped for players this time.
It is this reason that Prince Fielder cannot find any potential buyer with much enthusiasm apart from the otherwise little interest that the Texas Rangers has shown. The Rangers’ general manager Daniels seemed to have all their attention on young Darvish.
"Our scouts did an unbelievable job," Daniels said. "It was more than just sitting behind home plate with a radar gun. Our guys really did their homework. We felt good about the process. In talking to everybody who knew him, we're getting a guy with a tremendous
work ethic and conditioning.”
Whatever the end result, the Rangers will be the biggest benefactors if they can manage to sign Prince Fielder in the team.
