According to a top baseball website, Prince Fielder has landed at the place of his dreams, the city of Detroit. Fielder started to learn the art baseball at Detroit Tigers’ ballpark when he was a kid. His father Cecil Fielder was a key member of the club in early 1990’s, which has made him a very famous figure among the Tigers’ fans.
Driving from Orlando to Lakeland, Fielder had the chance to meet with his new team-mates and coaches. Miguel Cabrera, who is expected to play third base this season, was also present at the occasion and he congratulated Fielder at securing a $214 million deal with the Tigers. The nine year contract was the fourth largest in history of Major League Baseball and it will provide Fielder with an opportunity to play his natural game with freedom and job security.
Cabrera posted another 30 home-runs and 100 RBIs season last year. However, with the addition of Fielder in Tigers’ hitting line-up, he is expected to play third base duties in the upcoming season. Both hitters practiced at the Tigers’ training facility and they loved each other’s company. Cabrera stated that he is very excited to bat behind Fielder.
Fielder, on the other hand, commented that it will be motivation for him to bat in front of Cabrera, who has won Most Valuable Player Award several times in his baseball career.
"Whenever you see an MVP-type player hitting in front of you, it's always motivation, because you see greatness every night," Fielder said. "I'm sure Miguel's going to do the same thing. I'm looking forward to it."
"No, I think he's good," Fielder further added. "I've got to worry about my game at first. I think he's good. He knows what he's doing. I've just got to make sure I catch it when he throws it."
The upcoming season will be of great importance for the Tigers. If Cabrera and Fielder can live up to the expectations, the Tigers will be a force to reckon with. Considering their strong batting attack, not only are they favourites to win the American League Central title but also the World Series.
