Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera hold the key for Detroit Tigers– MLB Detroit Tigers News
Detroit Tigers were absolutely brilliant last season as they secured the American League Central Division title. Although the Tigers were unable to deliver the goods during the postseason, the overall quality of their game play in 2012 was pretty satisfactory.
Undoubtedly, Tigers’ general manager and director Dave Dombrowski wants his team to win the World Series title this season. He was very proactive right through the offseason. Having spent $214 million to acquire Prince Fielder’s services, he has shown that he is willing to pay any price for the coveted title.
Miguel Cabrera has been asked to replace Brandon Inge at third base. Although the critics are convinced that Cabrera is too heavy to perform third base duties effectively, Dombrowski has some other ideas.
In an interview with a leading sport website, the GM stated that although Cabrera is not as good as Inge from a defence prospective, the value his hitting brings to the table is unmatched. Last season Cabrera batted with great aggression to score yet another 30 home-run and 100 RBI season.
The right handed striker has already started to train with the Tigers’ coaching staff as he wants to show the world that he can play third base as efficiently as anyone else in Major League Baseball.
According to Tigers’ catcher, the hard hitting Cabrera has lost 20 pounds of his weight in an attempt to shut his critics. If Cabrera can maintain his sensational batting form in the upcoming season, the Tigers will not mind him making a few defensive errors on the field.
Prince Fielder, on the other hand, will be looking to perform consistently under pressure this season. Signing a multi-million dollar deal with the club, he will be looking to justify his huge contract.
In a display of some high quality hitting, Fielder posted impressive stats last season. Batting on .299 average with 38 home-runs and 120 RBIs in 2011, he looked in commanding form to help Milwaukee Brewers earn important wins. If the Tigers’ can utilise him to his maximum capability, they will have a great chance to realise their dreams.
