Prince Fielder could make it three straight MVP’s for Detroit Tigers – MLB Update

With outfielder Torii Hunter and Designated Hitter Victor Martinez in the batting line-up, the Detroit Tigers could have their third straight American League Most Valuable Player next season. Maybe Prince Fielder will be that player who will make it happen
for the Tigers next year.
Fielder had a decent time on the plate last season as he hit .313 with 30 home-runs and 108 RBI’s. Along with third baseman Miguel Cabrera, he formed one of the most dangerous hitting combinations in the American League.
While Fielder had a decent season, Cabrera went on to win his first AL MVP in the past season. It seems it is now Fielder’s turn to take the hardware home.
No Major League Baseball team has been able to give three straight MVP in nearly a half century. New York Yankees did it from 1961 to 1963 when Roger Maris, Mickey Mantle and Elston Howard combined to win three MVP awards.
For the Tigers, Justin Verlander had a sensational 2011 season. He led the league in strike-outs, ERA and wins to claim his first MVP during that season. Although Verlander was nominated as one of the candidates for 2012 MVP as well, it was his team-mate
Cabrera who claimed the prize.
Fielder, on the other hand, has played a supporting role in an MVP for two consecutive years. He hit behind Ryan Braun for Milwaukee Brewers in 2011. Braun went on to win the National League Most Valuable Player Award. After his stunt with the Brewers, he
signed the fourth largest contract in history of the game with the Tigers.
Cabrera credited Fielder as a significant supporting act in his Triple Crown and MVP season. The left hander Fielder has the ability to score runs against the righty pitchers, giving Cabrera the opportunity to hammer the lefty pitchers the past season.
Now that Cabrera has won the MVP and the Triple Crown Award, the pitchers will take their chances against Fielder more often than before. In some ways, the first baseman will have an excellent opportunity to post his career best season next year. If Torii
Hunter and Victor Martinez can live up to the expectations, Fielder will be a big threat for American League pitchers.
