Prince Fielder deal likely before Spring Training – MLB News
The unusually long delay for Milwaukee Brewers’ Prince Fielder’s deal is apparently coming to an end now. Scott Boras, who happens to be the agent of the commanding slugger, has now dropped a hint that the player will have a contract ready prior to the commencement
of Spring Training.
A lot has been said and written about this high-profile player’s contract. However, practical success has eluded the deal, leaving many questions unanswered. It is in this context that what Boras stated holds tremendous significance.
"Certainly we're going to have him signed well in advance of Spring Training," said Scott Boras, who is famously known for having successfully had many deals sealed in the past for a variety of players. "I can't give you the exact date. These things take
some time. That's why we have January and early February. Spring Training doesn't start until late February."
Boras was also asked if the deal will get delayed as long as March. His was a negative answer. The agent has his reasons to offer when it comes to the deal.
Scott thinks that because of the supposedly big long-term deal, which is stated to be of at least 10 years like Albert Pujols of the Los Angeles Angels, the talk consumes a tremendous amount of time. All these factors need to be evaluated before the final
decision.
"We're just moving through the process," Boras said about the Fielder talks. "It's just one that takes some time. You've got to meet with owners. You've got to sit down and talk with them about their needs. He needs to know where they're headed. He's going
to be there a long time, wherever he's going.”
While much has come from the different sources on Prince Fielder’s future plans, the player himself has remained quiet on the issue. Having an impressive average of .288, Prince Fielder, it goes without saying, remains one of the most eagerly-sought sluggers
of baseball. It is, nonetheless, all about the agreement on the deal that counts the most in the ongoing talks between him and the clubs.
