Prince Fielder delighted after agreeing to a $214 million deal with Detroit Tigers – MLB News
When Prince Fielder was only eight years old, news began to surface of his astonishing strength and dominance on the plate. As a 12 year old, he hit his first ever home-run in a Baseball Park.
The fact that he was able to hit a home-run at such a young age is unbelievable. Former Tigers’ third base coach Terry Francona didn’t think too much of the incident at that time nor did he anticipate Cecil’s son becoming one of the most expensive players in history of the game.
"Prince seemed to really love it," teacher Bonnie Surrell said. "We once went to Boston, the whole class did, and went whale watching on a boat, saw where the Salem witch trials took place, and took in a game at Fenway Park.”
Fifteen years later, Prince Fielder has the fourth largest contract in baseball with the club he always wanted to be a part of. Since he made his Major League Baseball debut, Fielder has dealt with the pitchers with ease. None of the MLB pitchers have been able to find a way to get him out cheaply.
He is an aggressive batter and he has the ability to produce match winning performances in tense situations. With 996 hits, 656 RBI’s and 230 home-runs, the left hand striker showed his class, temperament and strength in his seven big league seasons with Milwaukee Brewers.
In addition to his hitting abilities, the guy has great learning attitude, which makes him an asset for any MLB team. Considering his skills, the Tigers offered Fielder a $214 million contract earlier this week.
"Prince is a very wise boy who loves his father dearly," said Fielder-August, who said she received a text message from Cecil on Monday about the signing.
"He wanted to be a Tiger as a kid," she further added. "Who else would he have wanted to be? And I'm sure he's ready to be one again."
Dave Dombrowski made the move after Tiger’s designated hitter Victor Martinez stated that he will be missing the entire next season due to an ACL tear. Fielder will be looking to make the most of available opportunities to register his name in the list of all time greats of the game.
