Prince Fielder excited to play for Detroit Tigers – MLB News
Prince Fielder is very happy about his situation these days. The left handed striker signed a nine year $214 million deal with Detroit Tigers last week to become one of the most expensive players in the game. The contract was the also the fourth largest in Major League Baseball history.
Looking to change the course of his career, Fielder has already started preparing for the spring training session. In an interview with a leading sports website, Fielder stated that playing for the Tigers is kind of a dream come true.
Fielder is expected to play at first base this season. In the past, he has shown that he has the ability to play any position. Not only is he strong and powerful, but he is also one of the most athletic and agile players in the game right now. The 28-year-old will be looking to make the most of available opportunities next season to register his name in the list of all time greats.
"This is awesome," Fielder said Thursday after finalizing a $214 million, nine-year deal with Detroit. "It's kind of a dream come true. I'm excited."
"We're trying to win right now," general manager Dave Dombrowski said. "We tried to win last year. We were close. I think we've reached a point now, on a yearly basis, we feel that way. When you look at the core of our group of players, there's a lot of guys that are on that field right now that are quality players."
With the advantage of having Miguel Cabrera in the batting lineup, Fielder will have less pressure to deal with this season. He is a dangerous customer when he plays his natural game with freedom. Last season he batted with a decent .299 average with 38 home-runs and 120 RBI’s. Although he won’t mind having another 30 home-run and 100 RBI season in 2012, he will certainly be looking to improve his batting average.
The Tigers have spent millions of dollars to power their batting line up this season. They will be expecting Fielder to stay healthy and fit throughout to help them win the World Series title.
