Prince Fielder helps Detroit Tigers go past Minnesota Twins 2-1 with a home run - MLB Update
First baseman Prince Fielder’s home-run leads Detroit Tigers past Minnesota Twins 2-1 at Target Field, Minneapolis, Minnesota on September 30, 2012 in the last game of the three match series.
It was a low scoring game. Both the sides experienced drought of runs from the first inning through the completion of the sixth.
The first run of the game came off in the bottom of seventh from the Twins.
Given the fact that the Tigers struggled to post runs earlier in the innings, it was easy to believe that they will suffer a defeat.
However, they replied immediately. Instead of letting the Twins strengthen their lead, they produced two runs in the top of the eighth. As a result, they steered their journey toward victory.
Fielder stole the show in the eighth inning by hitting a massive home-run. While the match headed to failure of his team, he stood up out of nowhere and slammed a huge hit, pulling off a stunning win for Detroit as a result.
Anibal Sanchez started for the Tigers. In little more than six innings, he leaked one run and struck-out four.
He did not earn a win because he cost the team one run at a time when their lead was non-existent. Instead, relief pitcher Phil Coke claimed victory by throwing less than one inning scoreless.
Fielder has talked of his team-mate third baseman Miguel Cabrera after the match. He has expressed his gratitude of playing with him on the same team.
"This is his team," Fielder said. "I'm here to help him. This is his team, I just want to come and help and be a part of it. Be a part of being able to watch somebody that great. I just love being a fan, just watching him."
Fielder wants his team to guard against complacency. He is looking forward to witness the Tigers winning the upcoming matches.
"We're not all the way happy yet," Fielder said. "We have what, three games left? Try to win those and after that, we'll see what happens."
The Tigers are ideally poised to achieve new heights in the season. By keeping the momentum going, they can go a long way in this regard. It will be interesting to see as to what they end up attaining at the end of the season.
