Prince Fielder helps Detroit Tigers outclass Chicago White Sox 8-6 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers outclassed the Chicago White Sox 8-6 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Wednesday, September 12 in third game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
After the White Sox took an early 1-0 lead, Omar Infante grounded out to shortstop in the fifth inning to put Tigers on the board. Austin Jackson and Miguel Cabrera displayed some top quality hitting skills in the fifth as Tigers extended their lead to 3-1.
Slugger Prince Fielder also had a great outing, hitting a three run home-run to right in the seventh inning to help his side take an impassable 6-1 lead. Alex Avila and Jackson added doubles in the eighth inning as Detroit established complete control over
the contest.
"It's really big. If we just focus on trying to play good baseball, it should work out," Fielder said. "It feels like every time we score, they score and vice versa, but that's what happens. Anytime you have two good teams, you know it's not gonna be easy.
Fortunate for us, we were able to beat them in the final round."
Starting pitcher Max Scherzer pitched with great control and accuracy as he allowed just four hits and one run in six innings for his 16th win of the season. Relief pitcher Jose Valverde held off the White Sox for his 30th save of the
season.
"I love being in this situation. This is where I want to be," Scherzer said. "I want to have all the marbles on the line in a pennant race, where these games mean everything. I love having the ball in this situation."
Credit should be given to Manager Jim Leyland and his men for showing great determination and fighting skill in their last two games against the White Sox. Chicago clinched the series opener to move three games ahead of Tigers on the American League Central
Division standings table.
However, Tigers turned things around dramatically in Game 2 and Game 3 to stay in the playoff race. It will be interesting to see if Tigers can continue the good work in the finale to tie with the White Sox for first place on the AL Central standings.
