Prince Fielder hoping to shine with Detroit Tigers – MLB News
Prince Fielder signed on a nine year $214 million contract with Detroit Tigers early this season. Why the Tigers decided to make such a costly move was largely down to the fact their batting lineup failed to cope with the pitching quality in the playoffs last season.
Of course, Miguel Cabrera was in Tigers’ batting line in 2011 and he played a key role in leading the Tigers to the American League Central division title win during that season. However, Cabrera failed in some of the games in the post season and the Tigers were knocked out.
The results of the post season forced General Manager Dave Dombrowski and Manager Jim Leyland to make several changes in the team. Acquiring Fielder for the fourth largest contract in history of the games, the Tigers have definitely powered their batting attack. It will be interesting to see if Leyland can get the best out of his team to make it to the World Series finals.
"When a guy like that walks through your door, the players are going to notice,'' Tigers manager Jim Leyland said.
"Prince Fielder? That young man can hurt you with his bat,'' Rays manager Joe Maddon said.
Fielder was just a kid when he made his way into club’s locker room for the first time in his career. His father Cecil fielder was served the Tigers for considerable period of time. Although Fielder never played for the Tiger prior to this season, he had some kind of connection with the residents of Detroit and Tigers’ management.
"I'm excited to be here, really excited,'' said Fielder. "I've just got to be me, do the things that I've always done, and it will all be fine."
"There's going to be pressure. There's supposed to be pressure. I'm OK with that. I'm just looking to do my part.''
Practicing with his dad, Detroit is the place where started to practice baseball. In some ways, his tenure with Tigers will be of great importance and he will be looking to perform on regular basis to become a permanent member of this team.
