Prince Fielder looking to build a strong career with Detroit Tigers – MLB News
Prince Fielder has finally landed at a place where he always wanted to be. As a 12 year old, Fielder had the ability to hit home runs on a ballpark baseball park. Fifteen years later, fittingly, he is one of the best players in the game.
Fielder agreed to a nine-year $214 million deal with the Tigers to become one of the most expensive players in history of the game. Mike Illitch has a reputation of being care-free when it comes to spending money.
"We're not done [upgrading the roster]," Ryan said. "We're still looking."
"I'm not quite sure that Minnesota's going to make a signing that's going to combat Prince Fielder," Ryan said. "There isn't that type of name out there right now."
"I'll wait until I see that it's an official deal before I comment on it," Twins General Manager Terry Ryan said. "We certainly respect Prince Fielder's talent. If the Tigers get him, that won't make things any easier for us, or the Royals, or the Indians, or the White Sox, that's for sure."
The move also goes to suggest that the Tigers are hungry for World Series Title. Last season, the Tigers did a great job to win American League Central division title. However, they lost their way in the playoffs, which halted their progress to the World Series.
However, after spending a considerable amount of money on their batting line-up, the Tigers will be hoping for fruitful results this season. General Manager, Dave Dombrowski called Prince Fielder after Tigers’ designated hitter Victor Martinez announced that he will be missing the entire next season due a serious injury in his knee.
Martinez batted at number five slot behind Cabrera last season to lead their Tigers to American League Championships last season. Fielder will be expected to fill in that vacant spot to power Tigers’ batting line-up.
He batted with great aggression and control last season. With a decent .299 batting average, 38 home runs and 120 RBI’s, the 27-year old finished third in the National League Most Value Player award voting. He will be looking to build a hall of famer career with the Tigers.
