Prince Fielder outshines Jose Bautista to win Home Run Derby – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers' Prince Fielder, once again, showed just what he is capable of as he cleared Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City 28 times to win the 2012 All Star Home Run Derby.
Fielder swung like a man who loves to hit a baseball. Showing his class, composure and temperament, he produced a masterful performance. His fans waited all day to see him in action and Fielder did not disappoint them as he belted home-runs to all parts
of the baseball park.
Most of his home-runs were enormous, getting lost in the sky before falling into the Kauffman Stadium' seats. The Tigers' first baseman cleared the boundaries 28 times to best Toronto Blue Jays' Jose Bautista and win the home run derby for the second time
in four years.
It was an absolute treat to watch Fielder striking the baseball as clean as it can get and with his win he also became only the second player to win the derby at least twice in his career.
Imagine hitting a round baseball with a round bat for 28 home-runs but the son of Cecil Fielder made it look too easy. In the final leg against Bautista, he hit eight home-runs with just one out.
"I love watching him swing the bat," said Ortiz, who agreed that Fielder has the hardest swing he has seen.
''Just being mentioned with him is real special,'' said Fielder, who spent time at Griffey's house when he was a kid. ''My dad would let me go over and play video games all day. He always took care of me when I was a kid.''
''They were far,'' he said. ''That's not easy to hit it out there.''
Bautista could do nothing but sit on the grass and watch Fielder drilling home-runs all night. His tremendous effort on Monday evening explains why the Tigers signed him on for the fourth largest contract in history of the game.
''I'm a little disappointed,'' Bautista said. ''I'm capable of doing more. I had a lot of fun doing it.''
Fielder, who has struggled to fulfil his immense hitting potential in the first half of this season, will be looking to carry over his excellent form into the second half to help his team win the American League Central Division title for the second straight
year.
