Prince Fielder’s homer helps Milwaukee Brewers beat Colorado Rockies 7-6 – MLB Update
Prince Fielder struck a two-run homer in the 14th inning to take the Milwaukee Brewers to a 7-6 victory against the Colorado Rockies at Miller Park, Milwaukee on May 20.
Suffering from a sore left shoulder after he tried to swing the bat on Wednesday, Fielder was an unlikely prospect for the game. However, the team manager reposed his confidence in the potential hitter and got the reward.
Importantly, the Brewers have held an impressive record throughout this season. Their last 11 encounters have resulted in eight wins. Although they are travel-weary and somehow seemed in trouble on Friday night, Brewers maintained their composure and scored
a victory.
"We had chances to win that game," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "Early on, we got people on base and we just didn't get them in."
Ryan Braun scored the first run for Brewers in the very first inning. However, worn out by the constant travelling, Brewers came under pressure in the third inning when Jason Hammel scored a two-run homer in the third inning. The lead gave Colorado an edge,
something they tried to maintain.
However, Carlos Gomez levelled the score in the fourth inning, but Colorado’s Chris Iannetta took the lead to 3-2 in the fifth. Jason Giambi made it 4-2 for Rockies in the sixth, following Jonathan Lucroy’s single to centre making it 4-3 for Brewers.
Casey McGehee levelled the score for the Brewers in the eighth inning that was followed by an interestingly tough race for victory. Once Yuniesky Betancourt homered to left to break the tying score and got a lead for the Brewers after Seth Smith had scored
a single for the Rockies, as they were poised to make a come-back in the game.
Dexter Fowler broke the tie and made it 6-5 for Rockies in the 14th inning. However, that did not last long as Fielder finally hit to right to earn a two-run homer and the conclusive 7-6 win for Milwaukee.
It will be interesting to see how Milwaukee carries their winning momentum forward into their next games. The Rockies looked tired, as some much needed rest is needed in their schedule.
