Prince Fielder’s homer helps National League to seal victory in the All-Star Game
Milwaukee Brewers’ first baseman, Prince Fielder had an extraordinary day as he hit a three-run homer in the National League’s 5-1 win against the American League in an All-Star game played at Chase Field, Phoenix on July 12.
With that convincing victory, the National League was able to break the 13-game winning streak of the American League and got a little-bit advantage in the World Series’ games as well. After having such a wonderful blow for home-runs, Fielder was listed
in the game’s Most Valuable Players.
Fielder also earned fame because he is now the first Brewer to strike such a long homer in any All-Star Game. He also participated in the Home Run Derby contest on Monday night, but at that time, he hit just nine home-runs and got the Number three spot in
that battle. Robinson Cano and Adrian Gonzalez were at Number one and Number two spot, respectively.
His team-mate Rickie Weeks also took part in that Home Run Derby but came in at a lower spot. Arizona Diamondbacks’ out-fielder, Justin Upton was not picked in that All-Star game and Fielder had a view that he should have to play the game and participated
in the NL. Speaking to reporters, Fielder said, “I don't know if I transformed the fans but I understood. I didn't take it personally. No hard feelings. I know Justin Upton is their guy.”
It seemed as the Fielder’s day as he played shots all round the ground. He was boosted by his team-fellows’ contribution also as Carlos Beltran and Matt Kemp both completed their singles during the fourth inning to raise the NL’s run flow.
The National League’s manager, Bruce Bochy had a huge ovation for Fielder as he stated that, “It's hard to beat great pitching and a three-run homer. He was our cleanup hitter and he did what he's been doing all year. It was a great at-bat for us. I was
glad that he was able to hear some cheers.”
At the end of the fourth inning, the National League went ahead 3-1. During the fifth inning, the NL’ batters stole another run when Troy Tulowitzki singled towards second base off the Los Angeles Angels’ closer, Jordan Walden. With the single-run shot of
Weeks, the NL took a 4-1 lead.
Bochy commented on Weeks and said, “That's why he's such a special player. He can beat you with his speed and he can beat you with the long ball. That's what makes him such a great leadoff hitter.”
In the seventh inning of the game, the NL extended their lead 5-1 when Hunter Pence posted one run on the score-board. As a result, the NL clinched a persuasive victory after beating AL at Phoenix.
