Prince George Cougars of Western Hockey League sign 15-year-old defenseman Tate Olson
Tate Olson, a young Canadian hockey player and a prospect has been signed by Prince George Cougars, a junior hockey team that plays in the Western Hockey League. It was announced by Prince George Cougars on Wednesday that the teenager has signed to a WHL
standard contract.
15-year-old Olson was selected 24th overall in the second round of the 2012 Western Hockey League Bantam draft by Prince George Cougars.
Dallas Thompson, general manager of the Prince George Cougars said that he is very happy to sign Tate Olson and his family to the Prince George, British Columbia based side as he said,
“We are very happy to welcome Tate and his family to the Prince George Cougars”.
He also was very happy because of the fact that they have got their top three picks from 2012 Bantam draft camp into their training camp as he added,
“We now have our top three draft picks from 2012 signed heading into training camp.”
There were two other players other than Olson who were drafted by Cougars in the recently held draft and those two are Jansen Harkins and Brad Morrison.
Jansen Harkins is a center, who is also from Canada and co-incidentally he is just 2 days younger than Olsen as he was born on 23rd March 1997 and Olsen was born on 21st March 1997. Third player is Brad Morrison, just three months and
few days elder than both of his other fellows and plays in the position of center.
Olson is tallest among all three drafted players as he is 6 feet 1 inch; Harkins is second tallest at 5 feet 11 inches and Brad Morrison is shortest of the three at 5 feet 9 inches.
All three of them would be joining Prince George Cougars’ training camp from the 24th of the August and had also recently participated in the 2002 Allstate All-Canadians Mentorship Camp which was held in Mississauga, Ontario.
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan born player told that it is very helpful to know that he is signed and will have a chance to play as he said,
“It’s helpful knowing that I’m signed and that I’ll have a great chance to play in Prince George. There’s going to be some added pressure on me at training camp, but that is something that I’m comfortable with.”
