Prince Harry of England paid a visit to Brazilian capital city Rio de Janeiro this past weekend.
The 27-year old was joined by some of the famous beach volleyball players of Brazil. The tour was part of his promotional campaign for the upcoming Summer Olympics, scheduled to be held in central London in June. The tour was also part of celebration of
Queen Elizabeth II’s diamond jubilee. It has been 60 years that Queen Elizabeth II took over the crown in United Kingdom.
The first solo tour of the young royal started off in Jamaica earlier this week. He promoted the best of the British on tour and especially focused on business, fashion and sport.
The Brazilian Volleyball Federation (BVF) greeted him on Saturday and renowned players Adriana Behar, Jaqueline Silva, and Carlão accompanied the Prince.
In addition, he was welcomed by some 700 people who put on a wonderful display of traditional dance to honour the guest. The feather-clad ladies swarmed around Harry and he looked quite delighted and amused. The Brazilian beach volleyball received the royal
seal of approval from Prince Harry.
He was introduced to the VivaVôlei, a social project of the Brazilian Volleyball Federation in Rio de Janeiro. Later on, he took part in a beach volleyball match that was played in shadow of famous Sugar Loaf Mountain. He put on a Brazilian football shirt
and went gung ho to prove his game skills in front of the cheering crowd. He attempted spikes and showed digging and diving on the sand.
The 11-year-old Gian Moreira, a participant of VivaVôlei, expressed his emotions in the following manner, “It was incredible. It is not something that happens every day. The Prince was nice and talked with some kids. He has a talent for volleyball and plays
well.”
Likewise, one of the VivaVôlei instructors Pedro Paulo praised the Prince. He said the kids overjoyed Prince Harry’s visit. Furthermore, he was also delighted at the opportunity of catching up with Brazilian idols Adriana and Jaqueline. Paulo concluded,
“The children will now study the story of Great Britain and its importance in sport.”
