Prince Miller rejoins Baltimore Ravens
In what may be one of the moreunlikely signings of the early NFL season, Prince Miller has rejoined the Baltimore Ravens.
Miller, an undrafted rookie who played college football at the University of Georgia, made the Ravens 53-man roster after final cuts on 4 September. When informed he made the team he was
ecstatic. That feeling of euphoria lasted less than 24 hours, as the Ravens cut him the following day to sign Bryan McCann. McCann, also an undrafted free agent, became available when he failed to make the Dallas Cowboys 53-man roster. McCann spent his college
career playing cornerback and safety for Southern Methodist University.
At the time, the signing of McCann and subsequent release of Miller seemed strange, both players were cornerbacks and both players returned punts, but Miller had better return numbers.
In pre-season games McCann lead the Cowboys with an average of 10.8 yards per return. Miller, who inherited the Ravens job when Donte’ Stallworth went down with a broken foot, averaged 12.4 yards per return. The one red mark against Miller was a fumble in
the Ravens’ final pre-season game.
After his release, Miller signed with the New England Patriots as a member of their practice squad.
Ravens’ punt returner Tom Zbikowski struggled in the season opener and it appears that Miller will be a back up option if those struggles continue. Ravens’ coach John Harbaugh had this
to say about the possibility of Miller returning punts; “obviously that’s part of our deal with that. Whether he can do that this week, I don’t know, and I probably wouldn’t give it to you anyway.”
NFL rules indicate the Miller must remain on the Ravens active roster for at least three weeks after being signed form the Patriots practice squad. Miller is looking forward to his three-week
showcase, “I’m planning on making the most of this three-week interview and making the most of things and staying around on the roster.” Whatever the case, it beats only lasting 24 hours.
