Prince Of Sorrento set to stand first in Delaval Handicap
Price of Sorrento, the Lee Carter-trained veteran gelding, is all set to make a big impact in his first ever outing at Newcastle racecourse on Thursday, June 28. The Class 2 contest over 1 mile and 3 yards will commence at 3:00 (GMT).
The Mrs P. Akhurst-bred horse has accomplished some iconic marks on 1 mile tracks since the beginning of 2012, but it is for the first time he is going to show his guts on the soft ground of Newcastle.
For the prize cheque worth £9,836, the son of Doyen out of Princess Galadriel will run against 10 rivals including some bigwigs like Al Muheer and Swiftly Done.
With the outset of 2012, it seemed that Prince Of Sorrento had gained some miraculous momentum that helped him bag a couple of consecutive triumphs in the month of March.
First, he notched up top spot in Marriott Handicap at Lingfield. Being 15-8 favourite, he faced 8 competitors. On the second occasion, he lifted the title of Cheltenham Handicap at Kempton while being 5-2 joint favourite with Mister Green.
From there onwards, the great gelding did not step out of Podium till his last outing. After getting a third on April 14, the maverick sprinter again won two races in a row----Crimestoppers Handicap at Brighton and Memorial Handicap at Yarmouth.
The brilliant runner finished as a runner up against a dozen of contestants in his last start entitled as King Handicap that took place at Sandown.
Overall, the Bill Hinge & John Searchfield-owned horse has won 7 of his total 26 starts to date. His recent glaring marks have spiked up his confidence level to a great extent. In today’s mega marathon, Prince Of Sorrento will surely capitalise on his form
and add another success to his career chart.
The gelding will be able to thrive convincingly provided Al Muheer spares him. The Ruth Carr-trained bay gelding has been at the peak of form since the dawn of calendar year. The son of Diktat out of Dominion Rose elegantly achieved a classic conquest in
July Handicap at Beverley on May 7.
The 56-race veteran horse moved ahead to win Memorial Handicap at Thirsk on May 19. In between these two triumphs, he gained a 5th position on May 11.
It is anticipated that there will be a tough tug of war between Al Muheer and Prince Of Sorrento. The event will be amazing to enjoy. Good luck to all the contestants.
