Prince Tam and Transact to revive their rivalry in the Pins & Needles Show Handicap Chase at Newcastle on 30th March
Newcastle is to host the Class 5 Pins & Needles Show Handicap Chase over two miles and 110 yards on Friday, 30th March. A lineup of five, five-year and older thoroughbreds is up for the race that has the purse worth £1, 819.
Leading the lineup due to a recent victory at Newcastle is Prince Tam, Terimon’s eight-year-old grey gelding out of mare Princess Maxine. Prince Tam has already raced through the 2012 season four times and out of those two were at Newcastle.
His penetration into the season was through the RacingUK.Com Handicap Chase at Catterick over two miles on 1st January in which he ended fifth on the lineup of eight.
The race was won by Strathaird while the 13/8 favourite of the race, Tipsy Indian, finished the race second last.
Second race of the season but the first at Newcastle was in the La Taxis Handicap Chase on 1st February over two miles and half a furlong.
The race was won by Transact who was onboard Graham Lee. The two will encounter again today and bring the rivalry back alive. This time around Prince Tam took Strathaird’s position who was the runner up the last time these two raced.
The 7/2 favourite of the race, Hole In One, was pulled up from the race.
After bumping into the eighth position on 21st February, came Prince Tam’s chance to bag a race.
Prince Tam won the Guinness St Patrick’s Handicap Chase on 17th March at Newcastle over two miles and half a furlong.
Prince Tam led the runner up, Pamak D’Airy, by 1 ¼ lengths and he was soon followed by the 7/2 favourite of the race, Transact. The winner of the 1st February’s race was finally driven down to the third position after been entered as the favourite.
Transact, Trans Island’s seven-year-old chestnut gelding out of mare Khrisma, raced once more after coming third against Prince Tam on 17th March. He finished fifth on the lineup of seven in the Newcastle Stampede Novices’ Handicap Chase at Newcastle
over two miles and half a furlong.
The race was won by Sambelucky while the runner up for the race was Ballybanks.
Both Prince Tam and Transact have won once at Newcastle. Who will get to make the most out of today’s opportunity is still to come out.
